I have just discovered your site and the fact that Wilson’s Syndrome exists. My doctor has recently decided to have me take Armour thyroid because I have low body temperature (96.4 day avg) and I have lots of other low thyroid symptoms. What do you think of Armour thyroid therapy versus T3 and do you think I would benefit from taking nutritional supplements along with the Armour?

Dear Diane,

Armour sometimes helps people with low temperatures feel better, sometimes no better, and sometimes worse. If it does help people feel better while taking the Armour, typically they do not remain improve after they wean off the Armour. T3 is a more aggressive approach and requires more management, however, it tends to help more people feel better while on the treatment and many people remain improved after the treatment’s been discontinued. Many people do benefit from supporting their health with herbs and nutrients.

Best wishes,
Denis Wilson, MD

Will it harm me to just stay on T3 for long periods of time? I have a lot of unavoidable stress in my life. After the third T3 cycle, my body temp stayed up for a while, but as soon as the next stressor hit it crashed. Since then I have just stayed on the T3 and do pretty good, though I have to increase it from time to time when the stress gets worse. I have neurological damage from a 30 year B12 deficiency due to colon cancer surgery that got half my B12 absorption area. I have fibromyalgia also. The Wilson thyroid meds help.

Many doctors would not be very concerned about patients being on T3 for long periods of time. Please see the following link, or forward it to your doctor: Click Here. Your doctor can also call 800-420-5801 to discuss the risks and benefits in your particular case.

Warmly,
